Foute pyjama

Oké, voor deze update schaam ik me een beetje. Het is een typisch voorbeeld hoe sommige christenen de waarheid van de bijbel commercieel verkwanselen. Hoewel ik nauwelijks durf te twijfelen aan de goede bedoelingen van de makers (er staan bijbelteksten op, dus het kan toch niet slecht zijn), hebben uitingen als deze volgens mij een averechts effect. De wapenrusting van God waarover de bijbel spreekt is een pantser, geen pyjama. Natuurlijk is het uit educatief oogpunt misschien goed je als Romein te verkleden, om zo te ervaren wat een pantser is. En deze uitrusting zou kinderen kunnen helpen bij het uit het hoofd leren van de teksten. Toch bekruipt me het gevoel dat een krachtig geestelijk principe op deze manier triviaal gemaakt wordt. In Tol Eressëa horen alleen echte pantsers. Pantsers van ridders, elfen en hobbits. Pantsers van strijders voor het koninkrijk.

Zoals Alex in het interessante on-line stripverhaal The Dreamland Chronicles. Ja, dit gaat werkelijk over strijden in en voor je dromen. Een jongen die jarenlang niet gedroomd heeft, keert terug naar een bijzondere wereld. Hij ontmoet zijn vriendjes van vroeger, van wie één een prinses is, en blijkt een belangrijke rol te moeten spelen. Misschien is hij zelfs wel koning...

[I'm actually a bit ashamed for this update. It's a typical example of how some christians take the truth of the bible and reduce it to rubble for commercial purposes. Though I hardly dare to doubt the good intentions of the makers (it has bibleverses printed on it, how can it be bad?), products like thise I think have the opposite result. The armor of God the bible speaks about is an armor, not a set of pyjama's. Ofcourse it could be informative for children to dress as a Roman soldier, to experience what an armor is. And these clothes could help children learning the bibleverses by heart. Still, I'm beset by the feeling that an important spiritual principle is trivialized in this way... In Tol Eressëa only real armor is allowed. The armor of knight, elves and hobbits. Armor of warriors for the Kingdom.
